Accounting Advisory Professional, Renée Besson

Tell us a little something about your business...
The name of my business is RB Accounting Associates. We focus on helping small businesses succeed by using the information from their accounting system to drive profitability. One of the ways we do this is by using state-of the art technology to help you stay on top of your books so you can have the most up-to -date information at your finger tips.
We know what most entrepreneurs aren’t running a business to do accounting. In fact, it’s viewed as a necessary evil. We totally get it. But our aim is to change the viewpoint of our clients. We want business owners to realize that their accounting information lays the basis for building a profitable, thriving business.
When was your lightbulb moment?
Wow. This is a bit of a tough one because I’m not sure I had a definitive light bulb moment. I always loved entrepreneurship, but, I have to admit that I was scared to take the plunge in my younger years. I guess I’d say in my last corporate accounting position. Doing accounting for the accountants for so many years helped my to realize I could probably help more small business owners by being a lot more hands on. Dealing with people directly has always been my strong suit and so I’d say it was then that I realized I could be more effective on the frontlines. So, at that point, I began doing research and learning what it would take to make the transition. The rest is history.
What are your three words of advice?
Attitude trumps Altitude.
This is important because so many focus on presenting that “perfect image”. The present themselves as they feel people want to see them or conjure up this image of ‘perfection’ in their minds and then try to match it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s 100% necessary to be good at what we do. But, we’re all human and want to be understood as such. Throughout the years, I’ve learned the more authentically me I am, the more successful I am because people relate to Renée the human, more than they do to Renée the Accountant.
You Do You. Others may offer a similar product or service, but no one is you. That’s what makes your offerings unique.
