With over 60 years combined experience in the perinatal world, Debbie and Virginia have revolutionized both care and education for new and expecting parents and the professionals who support them. And now they are doing it again! Their passion, heart and grand vision brings on another innovative venture that will positively impact how families have their babies and are supported postpartum with a state of the art Perinatal and Family Care Centre…”The Village”! The allusive and so sought after village that everyone tells us we need as new parents but we often can’t find, will now be coming to Hamilton, Ontario. This centre will include multidisciplinary professionals, a postpartum retreat, birthing centre and so much more! This will be the first of kinds in Canada and the plan to expand across the nation is just the beginning!
When was your lightbulb moment?
After running an agency and an education program for over 20 years it was evident that birthing and parenting haven’t changed over the last 30 years. Families deserve another option for birthing and postpartum and a place with trusted professionals who specialize in caring for them and their new babies!
We had been contacted by so many families who felt they were rushed out of the hospital after birth, were left to figure things out on their own after bringing home their baby and left uncertain about what professionals and services were available to them in their city. We also knew that cost was a factor as most people can’t afford to pay for one on one care inter own homes or feel comfortable delivering at home or a hospital. We knew it was time to make a change!
What are your three words of advice?
1. Use your personal experience to help make the world a better place!
2. If your dream doesn’t scare them, its not big enough!
3. Never ever give up on something you know is needed in the world!
This new business venture is built on something we needed for ourselves that would have highly impacted our own birth and baby stories. When we share this vision, it is so grand that people almost don’t believe we can make it happen, but thats how we know its never been done! and because it is so grand, we could have easily packed it in and given up so many times, but we refuse to give up on leaving a legacy for other Canadian families!
This is the recipe to truly make a difference in our world!
