Tell us a little something about your business...
If you knew your story would save someone’s life, would you worry about it being good enough, or would you worry about sharing it more?
After meeting Shirley nine years ago, I started asking myself that question. In 2016, she was a total stranger to me, reaching out on Messenger to ask if I had more blogs for her to read. “I loved your blog on MindBodyGreen. I’m a mom of five, and I’ve been struggling with depression a little bit. Do you have anything else I could read?” she wrote.
At that point in my career, I’d written more than 300 blogs and published several books. “Of course, please stand by,” I responded. But after dropping a few links in Messenger for her, I did something else. I wrote and dedicated a blog to her anonymously, all about self-care, and then invited my audience to step up in the comments with love and support.
I devoted my entire life to understanding the healing journey. As a holistic physical therapy practitioner for 30 years, the author of 14 books, a life-long athlete, and a third-degree black belt in Taekwondo, I have a passion for the mind-body-soul healing journey, understanding mindset and peak performance, and helping others with what’s possible.
So, I wrote that blog, and my audience stepped up. I knew I had other healers, mothers, and women who’d been through depression in my audience. I knew my Brave Healers would step up with love, support, and advice for Shirley. And they did. I was able to copy THAT link and drop it into our chat for her.
Shirley then signed up for a class I was teaching, and went on to writing two blogs—one about self-care, and the other a call-out to other mothers: An “If I can reach out and get help, so can you” type of message.
What I didn’t know while all of this was going on (she confided in me later), was that she’d been planning the suidide note she’d write to her husband and five kids.
You guys, if this is the only thing I ever do with my writing, it’s enough.
So I ask you again: If you knew your story would change (or even save) someone’s life, would you worry about it being good enough, or would you worry about sharing it more?
Brave Healer Productions is here to help make sharing your brave words, stories, and work easy.
We are a 9-time award-winning publisher with a passion for brave words!
When was your lightbulb moment?
One of my biggest lightbulb moments occurred when I realized that the old belief that you had to do it yourself to succeed was busted, and collaboration became the key to my success.
Of course, you can do things by yourself. But when I understood the power of community and collaboration, everything changed. My business turned into a global empire that keeps growing! Nowadays, collaboration and community-building are part of the strategy that’s growing our business and leaving our legacy in the world in a bigger more impactful way.
What are your three words of advice?
1. Prioritize self-care and your health. Be a master at this, and you’ll never burn out, no matter how “busy” you are. I had to learn this the hard way, after taking a short dive into burnout. Giving from an overflow, instead of my reserves is a much better strategy.
2. Feng Shui your inner and outer spaces so that you intentionally curate the energy in both: Manifestation will feel like kids’ play when you do this. After learning techniques that helped me curate not only my inner energy and mindset but the environment I create in and even the inner circle who helps advise me, life and business became very exciting and, dare I say, easy!
3. Make collaboration and community the way you lead–realize that lifting others up is how you succeed. It’s not just an idea; it’s an energy that pays forward to every human you come in contact with. That energy is your legacy. Books are a legacy business. Yours matters to me because yours is mine! When communities get together with a common vision, they become unstoppable forces for world-changing badassery. Taking responsibility for that energy has been a game-changer.
