Tell us a little something about your business...
Avalon is a first-generation lavender farm in the heart of the Headwaters, where our family feels grateful to host guests and their loved ones as they connect with nature. Avalon’s friends, family, and broader community came together to hand-plant every single one of the 30,000 lavender plugs in a single heroic weekend. With the harvest we sell fresh and dried lavender, as well as a suite of farm-made products like Lavender Simple Syrup. Literally meaning “Isle of Fruit,” Avalon is the mystical healing isle featured in Arthurian legend. Our official opening date is June 18, 2022. .
When was your lightbulb moment?
Long before a pandemic or the urban exodus, we had a dream to live a peaceful country life with our 3 kids. If you want to change the world for the better, you can only convince people that something is special by letting them experience it. Show, don’t tell. We’ve just followed our intuition and joy ever since we put in the first plant in the ground, in 2020.
What are your three words of advice?
Leap, then look, The fear that surrounds a career change, or learning something you aren’t “qualified to do” (on paper) seems to stop many women from boldly pursuing their dreams. Forget the noise and just go for what you want – with trust in yourself to learn as you need to.
