Tell us a little something about your business...
Sun Vixen Swimwear is an online destination for women shopping for designer luxury swimwear. The website (sunvixen.com) features a collection of swimsuits made by some of the best designer brands in the world – several of which have been featured in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Editions. I launched Sun Vixen because I was frustrated by the poor selection available in physical and online swimwear stores in Canada – a sentiment shared by many people I spoke to. It was a challenge to find stylish and fashionable swimsuits which could be worn for special occasions such as a girl’s trip to Arizona or a Las Vegas Pool party. Many feature bright colours and stylish designs reminiscent of a previous trip to Hawaii that planted an original seed of launching my own company.I’ve also made it a priority to partner with brands that know the value of creating high quality swimwear – where the craftsmanship matters as much as the design. I’ve helped promote the brands through my website and social media channels while also taking the opportunity to educate consumers on why Sun Vixen is distinctive compared to other retailers.
When was your lightbulb moment?
My lightbulb moment came to me while I was working in a corporate job.
While I enjoyed it along with the people I worked with, it also had its share of challenges. I had always dreamed of starting my own business and in July 2017, I decided the timing was right.
What are your three words of advice?
For anyone thinking of starting their own business but questioning whether they can succeed, my advice is: Yes You Can! I have no regrets about leaving the corporate world and taking the proverbial plunge into the swimwear business. So, if you have a dream of becoming your own boss, I say go for it.
