Tell us a little something about your business...
I founded Rue Pigalle in 2010 to shine a light on exceptional art-jewelry artisans, and the captivating jewelry they create. After representing artists in my gallery boutique for years, I realized that my clients wanted to meet the artists in person, discover their culture and learn about their environment, and were eager to do so in the company of likeminded women. To answer this need, I fashion women-only trips around the world, for intimate groups of art, jewelry and culture lovers; for women who wish to expand their world, their network, their knowledge in a purposeful yet fun way.
When was your lightbulb moment?
For most of my professional career I was a corporate lawyer. When we moved to Canada, I casually helped a friend at her boutique during weekends. That’s where I discovered the thrill of being an entrepreneur and decided to give it a try. I grew up in a family that revered craftsmanship of excellence and as a French woman jewelry is an important style signifier. That’s how I decided to open a gallery boutique to support and promote jewelry artists.
What are your three words of advice?
Resilience and Optimism: Entrepreneurship is all about innovating, trying new things, taking risks. Sometime it works, sometime it doesn’t. But you have to concentrate on the wins and use it to get back on your feet after a disappointing result. Over and over again until you figure out the right path for you and your company.
Support: Being an entrepreneur can be lonely. Find a mentor and a group of likeminded people you can turn to for advice, support, encouragement and to share your wins with.
Patience: It takes time to build a successful business. It’s a long term game.
