Tell us a little something about your business...
I started Dotty because I had a lot of retail customers asking for dresses with sleeves. They couldn’t find them anywhere for their customers who are 30+, and are professional, working women. So I made some…sold them… made some more…sold them…and Dotty was born.Today, Dotty has evolved into a brand that puts focus on designing and manufacturing flattering clothing for real women, living real, every day lives. These are clothes they wear to work, to a baby shower, to a casual wedding or just kicking around with their kids on weekends. The Dotty collection is machine washable, and wrinkle free, so Dotty can be found in many suitcases travelling the world!
When was your lightbulb moment?
My lightbulb moment came when I nearly sold out of my entire collection at my first One of a Kind show. I realized I was actually designing clothing women wanted to wear.
What are your three words of advice?
Persist: Creating, marketing, and selling a brand is very hard…you HAVE to persist, and remember why you’re doing what you’re doing EVERY day. Wake up every day excited to continue on your journey.
Believe: Believe in yourself and believe in the “why of your brand. You MUST believe that what you’re doing is beneficial to your customers, and the whole reason you created the brand in the first place solves a problem or satisfies a niche in the market.
Courage: Running your own business takes courage. Stand up for yourself and your beliefs. If you don’t who will?
