Tell us a little something about your business...
Competent Boards is an online platform for future and current board directors and business leaders who want to grow their competencies and improve their organization’s resiliency against new forms of risk without having to use time, money, and CO2 on travelling. Mid November we will welcome leaders to our next Competent Boards Certificate Programs for Boards, Executives, and their Advisors. The focus is on some of the most important and material issues of today; Climate, Diversity, Data Ethics, Human Rights and Supply Chain issues, Anti-corruption, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), etc.
When was your lightbulb moment?
Every day! I have been so lucky to work with some of the finest leaders and businesses around the world. I have always pointed out that the tone from the top of an organization is essential. However, I often find that there is a lack of knowledge about how to act upon ESG, climate, diversity, and other expectations that a growing group of stakeholders have – and that impacts businesses and their leaders’ ability to stay relevant and resilient. By interviewing global leaders I have worked with and sharing their insight I am scaling knowledge. Everyone cannot be so lucky to have a Paul Polman, the former CEO of Unilever as a mentor, but with our program, you will hear the insight and experience from him and over 50 other board chairs and leaders.
What are your three words of advice?
Paul Polman said “Grow Leaders & Trees” in our interview – so for every person signing up to the Certificate Program, we will plant a tree! He also said: “Incredible initiative. Competent Boards will share knowledge, experience and insight to help train board members on how to capitalise on opportunities the SDGs present.” And by doing this I hope that many leaders will stay relevant and resilient!
