Tell us a little something about your business...
Since 1995 Accademia del Giglio is a private school in Florence, Italy, which is specifically aimed at helping international students to gain proficiency in the Italian language, as well as learn several drawing and painting techniques. My two business partners and I decided to found this academy almost 25 years ago, because we were eager to get in touch with people from all over the world and let them understand the many aspects of Italian culture.
When was your lightbulb moment?
It took some years to realize that managing an Art school was the most appropriate business for me. I think that my lightbulb moment was when several students told me that studying at our academy had opened new perspectives in their lives, as they had realized that values such as culture and art can have an incredibly positive effect on their lifestyle as well as on their vision and perception of the world. At these words I felt a profound pleasure and that was the moment I realized we were doing the right thing.
What are your three words of advice?
Do What Your Passion Tells You To Do! If you believe in a project, carry it on. If at first you fail, do not get discouraged. Mistakes are inevitable and can be very useful because you will always learn from them, sometimes they will be your best allies for new strategies. Last but not least: do not listen to those who are not supporting you. Just go on and concentrate calmly on your goals.
