My back ground is Engineering, I graduated in Aerospace Avionics. In 2011 I moved to London and was fortunate enough to be placed in their graduate engineering program. Not long into the program I was given the opportunity to work in innovation and technology, this is where I discovered my passion for finding ways to use tech to help companies and people. In 2016 I moved back to Australia and started a tech consultancy, which ultimately got me the position of CTO at mOOvement, a corporate start up from Rabobank.  My focus now is on TRVLR.ai and bringing it to the forefront of travel AI.   Connect with Daniel here…

Tell us a little something about your business...

TRVLR is an AI itinerary planner. Our platform allows users visiting a city to select the attractions that want to see, while we take away the painful logistics element of holiday planning. The end result being an itinerary that actually makes sense, helping users see more and get more out of their holidays, and not miss out!

We decided to focus on B2B instead of B2C, enabling existing travel platforms to enhance their users experience using our platform.

When was your lightbulb moment?

I used to work at British Airways, one of the perks was cheap travel and therefore going on a lot of holidays! Ironically, my style of travel is to book flights, accommodation, and then see where the road takes me. Sounds good, but the reality is you miss out on seeing things, and spend a lot of time lost.

I then went on a 10 day trip to New York with a friend who was a hard core planner. She planned out all the details and spent months doing it. We knew exactly what, when, how to get there, and the cost. I thought it was madness, it would be a controlled trip where we don’t get to truly enjoy our holiday. Turns out I was wrong, it was one of the best holidays I had ever been on.

This is when I had the idea, how to I create an itinerary that actually makes sense, where I can choose the things I want to do but don’t have to worry about the painful, time consuming logistics of arranging those attractions into a useable itinerary.

What are your three words of advice?

– Persevere – Be confident in yourself, know the positive change you are bringing, and put yourself out there. It’s not about luck, it’s about continuous focused effort, you will get results.

– Gaps – identify your strengths and weaknesses, don’t be afraid to seek people who can help you, no one can do everything. Surround yourself with supportive people who can do things you are not good at, be open to their feedback and learn

– Leadership – As per the previous point, it is unlikely you will do it all by yourself, be a leader, not a boss. Take people on the journey with you their success is your success.
