Tell us a little something about your business...

As President of public relations firm, Susan Sommers + associates for over 30 years, I worked with restaurants, retailers, publishers, and non-profits to market their products and services. I was the author of three successful books on Canadian marketing and media relations and an instructor at the University of Toronto’s School for Continuing Studies for over 20 years, as well as courses through the Schulich School of Business and University of Western Ontario.
In 2010 and 2016, I co-authored two books on health and fitness for women: Power Source for Women: Proven Fitness Strategies, Tools, and Success Stories for Women 45+ and Love Your Body…Embrace Your Life! In 2017, I founded Power Source for Women and, in 2021, I launched my latest book, The Magic of Walking: Your Guide to a Balanced, Purposeful Life. The book is designed for everyone from newbies to seasoned walkers. It combines a memoir of my own mental, spiritual and physical walking journey with evidence-based tools strategies, and journaling exercises from The University of Toronto Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education and The Art of Living Foundation. Available in paperback, e-book, and audiobook formats.

When was your lightbulb moment?

During COVID-19, I walked daily through ravines, neighbourhoods, and waterfront trails in Toronto to care for my body, reduce my stress, and bathe in nature. Through these walks, I realized that, although I had considered myself a fitness walker, I also walked for mental and spiritual strength.
At that moment, I examined all the ways I had embraced walking throughout my life – from mall walking to walk Marathons. From this lightbulb moment, my new book and my new Keynotes and presentations were born. The Magic of Walking: Your Guide to a Balanced, Purposeful Life is a walking resource for readers of al ages and a memoir of my own walking journey.
