From Corporate to Calling: Mid-Life Reinvention and Resilience, Camille L. Miller

For most of my life, I did what I was supposed to do. I worked hard, moved up the ladder, and chased success as it was defined by society. I held more jobs than I can count—from short-order cook at 13 to CEO of a non-profit at 44. Along the way, I was a cashier, server, mental health counselor, fundraiser, real estate agent, business consultant, and serial entrepreneur. I loved the challenge of mastering something new and then moving on to my next big adventure.

I used to say, “Every two years, I move up or I move out.” If a company didn’t promote me or give me new challenges, I’d create my own. It was a great strategy—until I realized I didn’t want to climb someone else’s ladder anymore. I wanted to build my own.

In 2015, I had what I thought was the perfect job—leading advocacy efforts in natural health and organic food policy, working at the intersection of science, sustainability, and holistic wellness. My role allowed me to blend logic and intuition, business and purpose, strategy and soul.

I worked with farmers, policymakers, and industry leaders to shape a future where food was grown with integrity, where communities had access to clean, nourishing food, and where businesses aligned with a deeper mission beyond profit. Every day, I woke up knowing that my work mattered, and for the first time in my career, I felt completely aligned—personally, professionally, and spiritually.

And then, the USDA funding was pulled. (I’d like to say it’s because we were making progress and commercial farming wasn’t happy about it.)

One day, I had purpose and security. The next, I was out of a job, staring at a future that suddenly felt uncertain.

At first, I did what any seasoned professional would do—I started job hunting, assuming I’d find something similar. But as I scrolled through job listings, nothing felt right. Every opportunity required me to compromise some part of myself—either the freedom I had come to love, the values I had built my career around, or the ability to create real impact.

The more I searched, the more I realized… there was nowhere for people like me.

I started asking around—where did soul-aligned professionals gather? Where were the high-achieving business leaders, entrepreneurs, and professionals who also believed in things like intuition, energy, abundance, and purpose-driven work?

I kept hearing the same answer: “Nothing like that exists.”

And that’s when it hit me: If I couldn’t find the space I was looking for, I had to create it myself.

That night, I sat down at my desk, opened my laptop, and wrote the business plan for what would soon become The Natural Life Business Partnership (NLBP)—a professional community where entrepreneurs, business owners, and conscious leaders could integrate soul and strategy, business and purpose, profit and alignment.

I had no office. No funding. No roadmap. But I had a vision so clear it felt like a calling.

Three months later, I trademarked the name and launched. I had no idea what was going to happen next. But for the first time in a long time, I wasn’t afraid. I was exactly where I was meant to be.

I started small—hosting coffee clubs and networking meetings throughout the Northeast. The demand grew quickly, but as a single mom of three, I knew this in-person model wasn’t sustainable.

By 2018, I heard of this thing called Zoom and it allowed me to take the organization online, making us the first no-chapter, all-inclusive professional society for purpose-driven entrepreneurs. That same year, I got a call from a woman in California who said, “I can’t wait for you to get out here.”

And just like that, we were bi-coastal overnight.

For years, we grew by word of mouth. Then, in early 2020, I declared we were going to target high-achieving entrepreneurs and tripled our prices.

Thirty days later, the world shut down.

Turning a Crisis Into Growth
While many businesses scrambled to pivot online, we had already been operating virtually for two years. Entrepreneurs started flocking to us—seeking a safe space to talk about their fears, refine their business models, and move forward with confidence. We grew exponentially that year!

By 2021, I knew it was time to go bigger. A brand strategist approached me and said, “I love what you’re doing, but your website doesn’t reflect the size and potential of your organization. It’s time to rebrand.”

At first, I resisted. But deep down, I knew she was right.

That September, we launched The Soul Professional Movement, trademarked the brand name, and expanded into a full-scale business incubator with mentorship and resources for every stage of entrepreneurship.

The truth is, I didn’t build this business from a place of comfort. I built it from rock bottom.

In the middle of growing NLBP, I was going through an exhausting divorce—one that left me with less than half of my assets. I was raising three kids full-time with little financial support, finishing my doctorate classes at night, and trying to fund a start-up on what was left of my savings.

At one point, I was on food stamps and public assistance just to make sure my kids were fed. I remember standing in a food bank, feeling embarrassed, when one of my children looked up at me and said, “Don’t be embarrassed, Mom. The food bank is here to help.”

That moment changed me.

I learned that I create my own reality. I could stay angry about my situation—or I could rise above it. I chose to keep moving forward, no matter how hard it got.

By 2024, I had become successful and began teaching as an Adjunct Professor for MBA students at a local school –that lasted one semester but changed my trajectory for life. I knew I needed to create something even bigger—not just a community, but a structured, strategic learning platform for soul-led entrepreneurs. That’s when I launched The Soul Professional Business School, an interactive, MBA-level education program designed for mid-life professionals ready to transition from corporate careers into purpose-driven businesses.

In 2025, I expanded again—introducing The Online Learning Academy so more entrepreneurs could access my teachings on their own schedule, while still receiving direct support through carefully curated lessons and implementation steps.

Through my signature program at the school, the Business Accelerator and Mentorship Program, I now help doctors, educators, and corporate leaders turn their expertise into scalable, soul-aligned businesses—ones that give them both freedom and impact.

For those who graduate from my program and are ready to scale, I created The Collaborative, a high-level mastermind for purpose-driven entrepreneurs who are ready to grow exponentially without sacrificing their values.
