My lightbulb moment occurred while I was renting a house for one year while renovating our family home. Although the home we rented was newly renovated, it was evident it was poorly constructed with very little natural light, a consistent smell (that we figured out was the result of material off gassing), and had rooms (including the master bedroom) that were uncomfortably cold during the winter due to poor insulation. My ‘ah-ha’ moment was when I realized how much living in this house impacted my mood, my interactions with my family, my energy levels, and even my physical health. It literally caused me to be unhealthy living there. After much research, I realized that studies are beginning to show that the environments we live and work in have a direct impact on our physical health, moods, energy and stress levels, and even how productive we are at home and at work. I set out to change how we build and share the knowledge I have gained to help educate others as well so that we can maximize our collective ability to thrive!
