Tell us a little something about your business...
As a white parent of 2 transracial adopted children, I’ve learned that I don’t know what I thought I did. One can’t learn and truly understand something they’ve never experienced firsthand. I thought I held many answers or solutions to life’s problems and inequities. But I didn’t know what I couldn’t know, and at the time I thought I did, until my daughter returned from her freshman year at college and told me differently. That was the summer of 2020, and I’ve since been on a quest to learn and understand.
When was your lightbulb moment?
After my daughter revealed her life long struggle, I realized the work I needed to do.
What are your three words of advice?
Learn, listen, reflect.
Learning listening and reflecting are catalysts for self-growth. Being the best parent you can be, means creating a home environment where your children feel heard and understood. A place where your children can share their deepest pains and joys as well. Being the best parent I can be is why I chose adoption. Why would I want to be anything less than the best I could be?
