Margie Gowing

I fell in love with painting early on, inspired by both my parents, and by the artist Beatrix Potter, and the Impressionists, Renoir and Monet. Diagnosed with a serious illness at a young age, I would pass long days at the hospital by painting and learning calligraphy from my father.
My family and I spent a large part of my childhood traveling through Europe, where I was inspired by all the rich culture which surrounded me. Later in my teens I taught “ Summer Art”, and am now working with special needs children for the WRDSB, using art as a form of therapy.  Connect with Margie here…

“Love in Every Petal”, Margie Gowing

Tell us a little something about your business...

Over the pandemic, I realized how many people are searching for creative moments of JOY. It was for this reason that I started my business “ Love in Every Petal”, where I create commissioned acrylic paintings (5×7, 8×10) which are part of my “ Miniature Collection”. I also custom paint wedding signs, and provide calligraphy and art lessons.
The lessons are a one-on-one art experience that allow me to share my passion with others, to provide them with the opportunity to tap into their imaginations, to express their creativity and to, perhaps, set out on their own artistic journey. (Each art package includes a personalized basket filled with all the supplies needed for your lesson, as a keepsake for further painting.) My love for people drives all that I do, so it brings me great JOY to curate personalized art packages for those looking to learn.

When was your lightbulb moment?

Two years ago I had a stroke that effected my right arm, and I didn’t know if I’d ever be able to write in calligraphy or paint again. It was during this time that I realized how precious life is, and how much JOY I experience through painting. That was the moment I realized how much JOY I received through my passion of writing and painting, and wanting to share it with others.

What are your three words of advice?

My words of advice are “ Pure Joy follows Passion”. When I was a little girl, my father would always say “ There’s love in every petal”, when he pick a rose from our garden and handed it to me. My parents always encouraged me to follow my passion in art, and throughout my life, it is what brought me pure JOY. I hope to convey this same sentiment through my work as I pour out my heart into each piece I create.
