Tell us a little something about your business...
I had a coaching practice on the side while I worked as a marketing director at a Multinational Consumer Goods Company. I kept trying to leave my day job but I was getting over 6-figures and had an immigrant mentality (thanks Mom and Dad!) so I could never let go. Then I had a fight at work with a woman who I later found out was on anti-depressants. It lasted 2 years and my boss did nothing to resolve the issue. One day, I just had enough and said “that’s it, I’m gonna live my dream” and that’s how I finally had the courage to leave. I pray to that woman every day.
When was your lightbulb moment?
The moment where I decided I wasn’t going back to looking for a job was a credit to my mentor, the words of dearly departed Dr. Wayne Dyer’s “Don’t die with your music in you”. They were so profound for me then and still today because if you think about the fact that only 15% of the population in Canada own their own full-time business. The rest have to bow down to other peoples’ whims the way I had to for 18 years!
What are your three words of advice?
Brave-have the guts to do what it takes to get what you want. In life and in business. Fun-if it’s not fun, why do it? I’m redesigning my entire work to include more fun and interaction so that my clients are leaving calls rejuvenated and joyful but still growing their businesses! Resilient-The obstacles you encounter are just slight bumps to jump over quickly. Then you shake it off and keep your eyes on the prize!
