Tell us a little something about your business...
I am a portrait photographer located in Burlington, ON. I specialize in personal branding, professional headshots and photography for websites and social media. I began my career path as a high school teacher. When I was 30years old I went back to school and got my certificate in Graphic Design. I spent then next 15 years as a graphic designer in magazine creation, and as part of a marketing team in one of Canada’s largest corporations. Photography was always a part of my role as a designer. In 2011 I began my own photography business as a side hustle. As my business grew I knew it was time to fully embrace entrepreneurship. I meshed my teaching, design, marketing, and photography skills to specialize in personal brand photography. Today I help business owners understand how and where they need to be seen, I create magazine quality portraits for them, and and I create visual content for their businesses.
When was your lightbulb moment?
I didn’t have a lightbulb moment as such. My journey was more one of uncertainly, but just by following the “what nexts” my steps unfolded. Hindsight is 20/20 and looking back my journey makes a lot of sense. Having the teaching and graphic design background has been an enormous asset to me as an entrepreneur and as a photographer. My passion in photography really started when I was 11 years old and my mom bought me my first film camera with cube flashes from a garage sale. It’s still so incredible to me that I am making a living doing what I love, and empowering so many people in the process. And when I see my clients blown away (and often moved to tears) that they too can have images of themselves that they love, I know I have truly found my path.
What are your three words of advice?
Love yourself – change what you can and accept the rest; we are all unique and life is too short to waste
Love others – it makes others happy, it makes you happy and makes the world a better place
Wake up every day saying, “Today is going to be a good day.” and end every day in gratitude for the day.
Three words of advice...
acceptance, openness, love
