Tell us a little something about your business...
After 15 years working at the same organization in the non-profit sector, I was turned down for a promotion. 15 years of dedicated service, a strong belief in the mission, vision and values of the establishment and excellent annual performance reviews, an external candidate was chosen. Realizing I had come as far as my career could within those walls, I set out to plan a new journey. Knowing I had skills, determination and drive to succeed, I started a side hustle to test the waters of entrepreneurship. That was almost three years ago. Six months later, I launched full-time into my business and within four months, reached the threshold to begin charging HST! The business name is a spin on the term, “executive functioning,” which is simply the cognitive process that encompasses an individual’s ability to organize thoughts and activities, prioritize tasks, manage time efficiently and make decisions.
When was your lightbulb moment?
“You are not ready to be an Executive Assistant,” were the shaming words from the HR Director after my interview for the role. Those hurtful words still rattle around in my mind and serve to fuel my success today. Whenever I have doubts about a new direction or am strategizing my quarterly planning, those words serve to prove to me that I am good enough. That I am ready. That I am successful. That I offer great value.
What are your three words of advice?
See what is possible and reach for the limitless sky! Consider what you love to do and what value that could bring to others. What problem can you solve for others that they would gladly pay for? Believe in the potential of your staff and most of all in yourself. “Being your own boss is not a full-time job or a part-time job, it’s a way of life.” Caroline Davidson
