Tell us a little something about your business...
Structured Creations Inc is a boutique residential design firm specializing in custom homes and large scale renovation and additions. I started Structured Creations soon after school to allow myself to learn and grow in the industry, not only through my own projects and experiences, but also through working with and for other professionals in the industry. I finally incorporated in 2003. We take great pride in the work that we do and the designs that we create and I truly believe that our success is directly related to the love of architecture and design, the passion for the spaces we create and the fun that we have going down each journey with our clients. We have had the privilege of working with some equally passionate partners, from our engineers to our interior designers, we have created a great team.
When was your lightbulb moment?
When I was in junior school, my teachers always pressed on me, actually, my parents more to be honest, to follow a career that could be directly related to my ability to draw and create….right back to grade 1 when I was drawing houses in perspective rather than a box with a triangle on top of it. Every drawings always leaned towards creating space and when a teacher mentioned Architecture, we never looked back.
What are your three words of advice?
Listen….always listen. I am not designing my dream home, I am designing my clients dream home, space or interior. If I do not listen then I will never be able to capture their thoughts, ideas and wishes within their design and inevitably, the design will fail.
Love….love what you do. Love and passion for design allows me/us to put our heart into every project and therefore get excited about everything we do. Without it, the architecture becomes mundane and lifeless.
Learn….you can never stop learning. I have had the privilege to work for several incredibly talented and creative architects as well as associate, to this day, with some wonderful mentors. They continue to inspire me to be better, and to be better, we must continue to learn and grow. Whether it is through the technical side of keeping up with new technologies or expanding your creative mind to think outside of the box, we must never stop learning.
Three words of advice...
Listen….Love….Learn
