Tell us a little something about your business...
In 2012 I founded, with the help of a brilliant community, a global platform, called Creative Conscience. It was set up to reward, engage, teach and inspire creative thinkers from around the world to use their talent for social and environmental impact. At the time I was the Creative Director, and board member, of a sizeable branding agency in London. I was disillusioned. We branded and designed products/services that were basically destroying our planet, helping people to sell things we didn’t need. Prop up an economic system that was and is broken, I knew there must be a different way to get people to use their skills to save and not destroy our world.
When was your lightbulb moment?
My lightbulb moment was when I was reprimanded by our Managing Director, simply for suggesting to a client they looked at using different materials for their new packaging systems. Ecologically friendly, bio-gradable materials, to look at a different way of doing things. The client was completely restructuring their factory and production lines, for thousands if not millions in investment. Nine years on – single use plastic is now on our radar as toxic and legislation is changing, imagine what that business could have saved if I had been heard. Imagine if all positive game changers could be heard.
What are your three words of advice?
Brave: be brave because great things happen to brave people.
Authentic: I spent much of my early life not being authentic because of fear. It simply doesn’t work. Be authentic it will really help you.
Love: love yourself, our planet, its people, nature, life, what you do – because if you can come at things from a place of love, you will succeed every day and enjoy the ride.
